Dr Chris McGrath

Chris was called to the Bar in 2000.

He holds bachelor degrees in Law and Science, a Master of Laws, and a PhD.

He practices principally in planning and environmental law, mining law and climate law for regulators, including local government, developers and public interest litigants.

His publications include Synopsis of the Queensland Environmental Legal System (7th ed, 2020), which provides a short summary of the major environmental laws in Queensland.

His website, Environmental Law Australia, provides case studies of significant environmental litigation in Australia, such as the Tasmanian Dam Case, and cases in which he has appeared such as the:

– Nathan Dam Case (led by Stephen Keim SC)

– Japanese Whaling Case (led by Stephen Gageler SC)

– Adani litigation (led by Saul Holt QC)

– New Acland Coal Mine litigation (led by Saul Holt QC).

He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland’s (UQ) Global Change Institute, and an Associate Professor in Environmental and Planning Regulation and Policy in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences at UQ.
